"I was obviously there on time, but late." - Garrick Higgo on being assessed a two stroke penalty for arriving late to his tee time at the PGA Championship. Something that's completely unfathomable to me, seeing as I will notoriously arrive 2+ hours prior to most tee times to allow for a leisurely breakfast, plenty of warm up time, and maybe 15 minutes to spare for a quick drink.
His argument was that he arrived "on time" because he made it to the tee at 7:18... and 30 seconds but the tee time is 7:18 and 0 seconds technically.

THE CROSSOVER EVENT WE NEVER KNEW WE NEEDED

I'll be honest. The first time I saw this clip, I was speechless. Last weekend, the AEW (All Elite Wrestling) held their "Fairway to Hell" event at none other than the TGL Sofi Center. And I still don't quite know what to make of this.
Is it a sign that golf is trending towards mainstream? Is it a sign that TGL is desperate to gain revenue from their mostly dormant facility throughout the rest of the year? Is it a sign that wrestling has gone full AAA baseball now with gimmicks galore? Probably D) All the Above.
Either way, 1600 fans showed up to take in the show. And besides the bunkers, I don't really know how this would've been any more entertaining than an actual ring. We've jumped the shark as a society and I have no idea what's next.

PEOPLE HAD FUN BACK IN THE DAY, TOO

A totally off-based thing I genuinely catch myself believing is that people who were living during the days of black and white photography rarely had fun. Sure, there is plenty of photos of people smiling and doing totally normal stuff. But I mean more like goofy, punny, zany fun—the type of fun that, to me, is only possible with color.
Well, beyond reminding myself that the world was not, in fact, black and white back then... I see a post like this and it makes me smile. This post was from Golfers Journal showing a Women's Golfer Fun Day celebration at Coral Gables Country Club in 1970. Click through to see the full post, but it's chock full of images like the above, a costumed giraffe swinging, and even someone dressed as Lady Godiva/Godivot.
We used to throw a Halloween tournament each year with my golf league in Los Angeles called the Spooktational where playing partners in costume got a stroke each off their team score. The looks you'd get rolling up to the first tee at the public courses in the greater LA area as David S Pumpkins, Waldo, and the Super Mario Brothers stepped to the tee were priceless.
Let's try this again with the golf shows
THE HAWK TRAILER HAS DROPPED

We've finally got a first look at what the new Netflix Will Ferrell golf show, The Hawk, has in store when it drops on July 16th.
PROS
1 - It's Will Ferrell being Will Ferrell and that'll get you about 75% of the way alone if you're a fan.
2 - The cast is solid and includes a bunch of ex-SNL peeps. Molly Shannon plays his ex-wife, Fortune Feimster as his caddie, and Luke Wilson and Chris Parnell round things out.
CONS
1 - The plot feels pretty predictable. Not sure what I'd want instead, but even in watching the teaser, I kind of already know what the show will be.
2 - Lonny can't get out of bunkers. I try to play along as best I can with this stuff, but if we're to believe he is a pro golfer... this detail goes a bit too far.
INTERESTING NOTE
Callaway is back as the equipment sponsor after going in hard for Happy Gilmore 2 and you got to wonder if someone on the marketing team just wanted to hang around some film sets for a year.

BRINGING AUGUSTA TO HIS FRONT LAWN

For those who may not have come across him yet on their For You page, I'd like to introduce Archie Anderson aka @golf_with_archie - who is trying to turn his front lawn into a replica of Augusta National using ChatGPT as his guide.
Before we dive into where he's at, I have to raise a hand and say this is social media at its best. Just someone doing something super different/interesting/weird out in the world, and sharing their journey with us all. Always need more Archies out there.
Anyways, Archie essentially ripped up his whole front lawn, dropped down tons and tons of sand and dirt to help contour the lawn, and then planted real Bentgrass and Kikuya to create a realistic looking greenscape. Where he currently sits is many weeks of letting all the grass grown in from seed and he just gave it a first mowing.
The whole series has a nice slow TV kind of allure to it and I've enjoyed going back into the 20+ part series to see the work that's been done so far. Plus, selfishly, by writing this I hope that maybe I can sneak onto his wall of sponsors too.
