"I’ll have three gin and tonics and a glass of wine. Have a bit of ham. Play some Uno with the family, and that’ll literally be it. Come to the course tomorrow and see what happens.” - James Morrison, the 40 year old DP World Tour pro who earned his card back on the very last tournament before he planned to retire.

Three gin and tonics and a glass of wine is basically my standard wedding drink order. Wine with dinner and a couple G&T's to loosen up the ole stanky leg.

Bit of ham is so European too. Ham is the holiday meat. To flex that kind of protein on any random day? Wow.

Uno with the fam is the dream. Just recently got my almost 4-year old Jack into Candy Land and despite total game play time sitting at around 78 seconds before the pace of play starts to bother him—I can see the light.

NOW that's what I call innovation: Volume 2

FROM LIV TO LXXII
Big announcement from LIV this week is that all 2026 tournaments will be 72 holes across four days.

For those who didn't know or were confused by the headline/subject line this week. LIV was named LIV due to the roman numerals for the number 54. So one could imagine that, when created, the league was SO SURE that the 54 hole format would stick around that they decided to name the entire operation in its honor.

But alas, sport must evolve, I'm told. By new CEO Scott O'Neil specifically. So I thought it'd be fun to do a quick "translation" of his presser quotes to help decode what's really going on.

“As we enter our fourth season as a league, the move to 72 holes marks a pivotal new chapter for LIV Golf that strengthens our league, challenges our elite field of players, and delivers more of the world-class golf, energy, innovation and access that our global audience wants."

Translation: "54 holes was a bad choice." - read with a Ron Burgundy from Anchorman impression.

"We’re seeing upward momentum and traction from Hong Kong to Adelaide to Indianapolis, and that heightened interest opens the door to add another day of golf while benefiting our fans, players, marketing partners, and our global media partners."

Translation: "Three days in Indianapolis isn't really drawing the crowds like we hoped, so let's add another day of TV coverage to sell ads around."

"The most successful  leagues around the world - IPL, EPL, NBA, MLB, NFL - continue to innovate and evolve their product, and as an emerging league, we are no different."

Translation: "By saying we're evolving and name checking successful sports leagues, it allows us to spin the fact that we are just going back to the way tournament golf's been played this entire time."

The actual underlying reason to it all is so that LIV can more easily make their case to compete for OWGR points and therefore create a more direct path for its players to compete in majors. Which, at this point, should've just been the entire press conference.

Venn Diagram Test: MLB x Golf HAVE to start spooky this week

IN HONOR OF A KILLER WORLD SERIES
I am not a big baseball guy. Even when my Cubs won the World Series, it still only made a blip on my emotional fan radar as compared to if the Syracuse Orange or Chicago Bulls won a basketball title or if the Bears made the Super Bowl.

That said, this was the most World Series baseball I've ever watched in my life. And that's quite impressive. Helluva battle and this Ohtani seems to be quite good.

So to honor that, I thought I'd bring back a guy I profiled a long while ago who creates golf course logos inspired by MLB teams. His name is Justin Summer and his account is a great follow @clubupdesign.

I mean I'd wear the hell out of a dad hat with these logos on it.

Officially Licensed. Undeniably Bad.

TWO TIMES FOR OUR ARIZONA PEEPS
Huge news from Bad Birdie HQ. We heard you all as we walked the streets of Scottsdale and met so many of you Bearcats and Sun Devils across the state of AZ. "When will you drop officially licensed gear?"

Game day just leveled up.

(My obvious next question for the team at HQ... how long before we get that Otto the Orange collab?? Because nothing would make more sense than following up Arizona gear with some Central New York love, amiright??)

That said, hit me up if you want to see your school repped in a future drop. Curious what kind of fans we've got out there!
