As my colleagues at Bad Birdie know, any time I hit Slack with a keyboard smash, look out. Check out the new banner design!!
Fun fact: our designer is named Michael, too! Loving the direction. Slap that on a t-shirt and I'd buy 20.

New TGL City Announced

LOS ANGELES V. BOSTON: GOLF EDITION?

The second franchise for Tiger and Rory's new golf league was announced this week—Boston.

Fenway Sports Group, owners of (duh) the Red Sox and (not duh) Liverpool from the EPL, will be joining Serena Williams' daughter and unborn child (among others, like Serena and her husband...) as founding franchisees in TGL.

Could we see the newest generation of Lakers v. Celtics? Probably not... but I think for fun alone they should at least have the same color schemes.

But the more pressing follow up question is which four cities will round out the founding six? Here are my thoughts:

City 1) Dallas
This league has Mark Cuban written all over it. Clearly they're pitching very influential investors, well-versed in sports. And Cuban seems like a no-brainer to represent Texas.

City 2) New York
The obvious guess would be Yankee Global Enterprises to balance Fenway's involvement. BUT in a world where Los Angeles is represented by Serena's family, then I can see someone like Jay-Z linking up with Tiger and giving the New York team a more Brooklyn feel.

City 3) Atlanta
The South is going to need a team. My instinct said it would be Miami or maybe Orlando, considering the arena is in Palm Beach. But they hypothetically would have a home field advantage... assuming of course any Florida fan actually showed up to a sporting event...

Instead I like Atlanta here with an ownership group led by Tyler Perry. He's from New Orleans but has a MASSIVE movie studio in Atlanta and some light googling reveals there is a golf course on the studio grounds.

Don't sleep on a DJ Khaled Miami squad though.

City 4) Chicago
HOMER!!!!!!

I know, I know. But just allow me to dream for one second that instead of setting up a team in Charlotte or Florida, Michael Jordan enters the mix with a bada$$ red and black team representing my home city.
Chances these are all correct? 1%.
Chances I have at least one correct? 100%

Sliding into the DMs for a practice round

SHOOT YOUR SHOT

Caught this story on Golf Digest of an assistant pro who reached out to PGA Pro Wesley Bryan via DM to offer assistance for the Monday qualifying match before the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

And it worked!

The whole idea of Monday qualifiers is so wild to me and I wish I had more info about that grind. I think an entire Full Swing series would be too much and likely pretty boring, but I got to imagine there are plenty of heartstring tuggin' storylines to fill at least one episode? Stakes are so high and these are guys just scraping by on the Tour.

So much so that they're playing practice rounds with assistant pros and taking free yardage books from the clubhouse. Mad respect.

----------

Speaking of sliding into DMs!! Wow, people. I was stunned by how many of you complete strangers straight up cold emailed me and invited me out to your muni tracks, your cities, and even some of your country clubs?!

You all continue to be the best damn group of people around. And it has changed my mindset from one of, maybe we will find a handful of people who wouldn't mind coming to Scottsdale to do we actually start a Tour??

So if you hadn't emailed yet, want to send one more round out there for anyone who'd be down to play a round. Can be anywhere. And honestly, the more obscure the better. Unless you got some sweet hook-up at Augusta or whatever then... you know... I'm on a flight tomorrow.

Hit me up. Let's talk.

The only US Women's Open prep you need

LFG MICHELLE!!!

Next week, the US Women's Open visits Pebble Beach for the very first time. A setting so epic and yet so mind-boggling that it hasn't already happened.

While there are so many stories to follow from probably one of the better women's fields in certainly my own memory to Rose Zhang to the legend Annika Sorenstam accepting a special exemption.

There is only one story that I care about. Michelle. (Sigh)

In what should be her final professional tournament, Michelle will play next weekend with her husband on the bag and her daughter onsite.

Okay, the field is beyond stacked. But (sniffs the air) I'm getting some whiffs of 2019 Masters here... Vibes will be sky high. And with your family surrounding you, she's got nothing to lose.

"I didn’t dream of this to be the last one, but if I could this would be the way to go." - Michelle

So my message is simple. LETS F&@#^ GO!!!!

ZIREGOLF, YOU DID IT AGAIN

For as much as I tongue in cheek poke fun at the repost factory that is ZireGolf... dang it if they don't post some great stuff.

Jack updates of the week, we're walking people!! Better yet, we're helping dad with putting practice in the living room. We're understanding that we have to stand to putt. Put the ball on the ground. And eventually, get the ball to go in the hole. MASSIVE week at the household.

So with that in mind, I watched this clip and I near started crying at the idea that this could be Jack.

I mean, this kid is getting swings in before bed! Grinding. It gives hope to us all.

This week on r/golf

SIXSEVENKEVIN FINDS A FRIEND

You always have to wonder whether these Reddit stories are real, but allow me to dream.

It seems that Kevin AKA SixSevenKevin (a nickname completely unexplained and low key fantastic) got the number of an Anthony at some party with the idea that they'd circle back and get together for golf some time. A scenario that, in my experience, is followed through with approximately never.

Anywho, SixSevenKevin had to bail on a foursome for Bethpage Black and offered it up to Anthony.

The catch? Anthony is named Anthony but is NOT the same Anthony this dude thought he was texting. AND HE STILL WANTED THE TEE TIME!

This can get filed alongside that Thanksgiving story that pops up each year of Wanda and Jamal who mistakenly texted one another about plans for dinner only to actually meet up for Thanksgiving dinner—now six years running.

What a world.
