AI-generated golf courses

THEY'RE NOT REAL—AND THEY'RE SPECTACULAR

This is the Bridgewater Cliffs Clubhouse on the Mornington Peninsula of Australia.

It is one of the most beautiful places I could possible imagine.

It is completely AI generated.

If you consume golf content in the same way as me, and if you’re reading this… I’d make the leap that you do. You need to check out Contour. A brand new golf, culture and adventure content platform from the former Editor-in-Chief of Caddie magazine.

They published this article Impossible Courses on AI-generated golf courses and the results are mesmerizing. All the images were created using Midjourney AI. And I could scroll through these places endlessly, it scratches an itch in me that brings me back to my 12 year old era of pretending I was an architect creating insane houses on graph paper.
So friggin’ cool.

AIMPOINT Follow-Up

SABOTAGE OR GAMESMANSHIP?

(Pat-pat-pat) That’s the sound of me patting myself on the back—I mean WHAT TIMING on the Aimpoint “tutorial” last week. Because we have some serious behind the scenes juice from Michael Kim at the AT&T Bryon Nelson who tweeted out this picture of some curious markings on the practice green.

What you’re seeing is basically the Aimpoint system measured out with the 1, 2 and 3 signifying a 1%, 2% and 3% grade. The catch? Each is off by .5% according to Michael.

Michael is known for having a bit of a cheekiness to him, so take the sabotage accusation lightly. But, in my mind, this is the kind of gamesmanship I live for. A Michael Jordan level chess move that, even if it messed up one player, was worth it.

Now the real twist would be…
Michael Kim behind it!

Adam Hadwin headline? Believe it!

FIND YOUR MOTIVATION

As profiled in this Golf Digest piece from my nemesis Alex Myers, Adam Hadwin has cooked up some true motivation for himself. His punishment for missing the cut—housework.

His wife Jessica broke this story on Twitter where she then proceeded to roast Adam (aka Willis?) via comments. And honestly, I am already thinking of ways I can work this into my own life.

It’s a win-win really. Either you won at golf, an accomplishment that will always have an outsized effect on my mood and motivations because, as my horoscope-enthusiasts say, I’m a Leo.

And if I don’t win, I get $@%# done which will earn me some brownie points around the house and actually better my life.

A true class act

TOO KUHL FOR Q SCHOOL

Before we jump in, let’s take a moment of appreciation for this section title.

Ok, thanks.

If Patrick Reed is the gold standard for bending (and breaking?) the rules of golf, then Tommy Kuhl (a University of Illinois golfer) is the poster boy for rule following.

At local qualifying for the US Open in Springfield, Illinois, Tommy broke the damn course record with a 62! But Tommy, being the saint he is, had to disqualify himself based on rules infraction. Because, get this, the course was aerated!!!

What greenskeeper was in charge of that call? Most of us are begging the pro shop for refunds if there is even a sniff of sand or aeration plugs in the green. And these people had to go try to qualify for the US Open in those conditions? Someone f’d up.

Anyways, the rule Tommy broke was you’re apparently not allowed to fix aeration marks on the green. Class act. Someone let him in qualifying anyways, fix or no fix, the guy still broke the course record! That has to mean something.

rs) competing in future editions. We could be onto something...
